2 Piece Mini Collection – Handmade My Design

My Mini collection ‘What If’ The reason I have been very quite on my blog page lately. All of my time and energy has been going into college work. For those of you who do not know, I am in my third year of studying Fashion Design at LSAD an extremely intense course. I am sure If you ask any Design student they will respond in the same way. I believe that is one of the biggest underestimated courses out there in terms of people understanding what our course covers and consists of. For any future fashion students reading. Never underestimate the amount of work that is put in. But it will all be worth it in the end… ( I hope.. haha)

For each project we create our own theme around the brief. My theme for my My Mini collection was based around Global Warming in the Coral Reef located in Australia. ( Coral reefs are diverse underwater ecosystems held together by calcium carbonate structures secreted by corals and are built by colonies of tiny animals found in marine waters). In our rising temperature today climate change has caused water temperatures to rise. The stress on the corals is growing as they are very sensitive to changes in tempertures. If water temperatures stay higher than usual for many weeks, the zooxanthellae they depend on for some of their food leave their tissue. Without zooxanthellae, corals turn white because zooxanthellae give corals their color. White, unhealthy corals are called bleached. Bleached corals are weak and less able to combat disease.

Through the seams of my garment the coral (Texture) is breaking though trying to breath. With some of the texture bleached in different pinks I wanted to create a sense of the beautiful colours in the reef trying to explode out.

This topic is a very serious matter in our world today and as a blogger it will be one thing you will see a lot more of through my blog and social media feeds.

Thanks for reading!!

I hoped you enjoyed this post as much as I did writing it.

Much Love,

Aoife. X
